INAAD-002 / Space & extreme environments
Understand the person.
Measure adaptation.
Developing the Astronaut Health Questionnaire: a multidomain framework for health, adaptation and human performance.
Terrestrial and analogue research comes first. The working title does not imply astronaut-specific validation.
01 / Proposed assessment architecture
Ten domains to review.
A manageable battery to build.
These are candidate domains from the controlled master. The first study needs a justified subset, with overlap and participant burden assessed before selection.
- 01 / Sleep & circadian function
- 02 / Fatigue & recovery
- 03 / Stress & autonomic state
- 04 / Mood, anxiety & psychological wellbeing
- 05 / Cognition
- 06 / Pain & physical symptoms
- 07 / Musculoskeletal & physical function
- 08 / Sensorimotor & vestibular function
- 09 / Social & environmental adaptation
- 10 / Overall health & perceived readiness
02 / From framework to research use
Define. Select. Test. Validate.
- Define the study question and constructs. Separate screening, baseline characterisation, outcome measurement and safety monitoring.
- Review candidate instruments. Confirm validity, reliability, responsiveness, population fit, recall period, scoring, licensing and completion burden.
- Pair reports with objective measures. Candidate layers include heart rate/HRV, respiration, sleep/activity sensing, cognitive tasks and relevant balance measures. Selection depends on the protocol and acquisition quality.
- Test feasibility and comprehension. Seek expert review, cognitive testing and pilot evaluation before research deployment.
- Validate new items or composites. Combining instruments does not automatically validate a new score or establish suitability for aerospace use.
03 / Collaboration priorities
Help shape the first
terrestrial research battery.
We seek methodological, psychometric and aerospace-medicine input, alongside expertise in physiology, performance testing and wearable measurement.
Core measures, precise measurement timepoints, total burden, population and site, intervention specification and responsibilities. No recruitment, operational deployment or validated diagnostic tool is announced here.
