Developing research into sound, vibration and women’s health—with a focus on symptoms, lived experience and measurable physiological responses.
Menopause, pregnancy and pelvic health bring distinct research questions. Our programme connects them through careful measurement and population-specific study design.
Two distinct research pathways—menopause and pregnancy—are supported by the anatomical pelvic-health strand. Each pathway requires its own clinical and safety review.
01INAAD-006
Menopause & neuro-acoustic health
Investigating symptoms, wellbeing and physiological adaptation across the menopausal transition.
Initial study focus
Symptomatic peri- and postmenopausal adults, with menopausal symptom burden, pain, sleep and anxiety as candidate outcomes.
Pelvic-health connection
A proposed subgroup could examine genitourinary symptoms and sexual wellbeing, using measures selected with the clinical team.
Concept development
02INAAD-007
Pregnancy & pelvic health
Developing research around pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain, everyday function, sleep and anxiety.
Initial study focus
A proposed feasibility study would pair an assessment of pelvic-girdle function with site-specific pain measures and participant experience.
Clinical context
Exposure parameters, permitted application sites and study procedures require obstetric review before use in a study.
Concept development
03INAAD-008
Pelvic girdle & anatomical assessment
Building an assessment framework around the sacroiliac regions, pubic symphysis and coccyx.
Assessment focus
Map pain by anatomical region and consider its relationship to function and broader participant-reported outcomes.
Programme connection
This strand supports clearer description of pelvic-pain patterns within the pregnancy work and related pelvic-health questions.

02 / Measurement framework
Symptoms. Function. Physiological response.
Candidate measures come from the working study protocol. Final instrument versions, language suitability and permissions would be confirmed for each study.
Pregnancy-related function
Pelvic Girdle Questionnaire
The proposed clinical anchor for pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain.
Menopausal symptoms
Menopause Rating Scale
The proposed clinical anchor for overall menopausal symptom burden.
Shared participant outcomes
Pain, sleep, anxiety & change
Candidate measures include pain ratings, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, GAD-7 and a participant rating of global change.
Exploratory physiology
Heart rate & heart-rate variability
A proposed substudy would assess data quality and acute responses under standardised conditions. These measurements alone would not establish a mechanism.
The working protocol proposes two parallel randomised feasibility studies: one in pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain and one in symptomatic peri- and postmenopause.
01
Characterise
Specify the device, physical exposure, delivery method and a credible matched comparator.
02
Review
Finalise population-specific safety, clinical oversight, consent and ethics requirements.
03
Test feasibility
Assess recruitment, retention, adherence, acceptability, safety and data completeness.
04
Decide the next step
Use feasibility findings and outcome variability to refine, stop or plan a larger trial.
What this programme can currently say
Sound- and vibration-based exposures are experimental in this programme. The draft protocol does not establish clinical benefit, pregnancy safety or an effective frequency or dose. This page describes research development; it does not offer treatment or invite participant enrolment.
04 / Collaboration
Build the study with us.
Our next steps need clinical input in women’s health, obstetrics and pelvic health, alongside measurement science, acoustics and research methods. Patient and public involvement will help shape acceptable procedures and outcomes that matter.
